FanDuel Daily Fantasy Football Preseason Helper: Week 3, Sunday
Typically, in Week 3 of the preseason, teams consider this week to be the "dress rehearsal" week. Teams will usually play their starters for the first half and, in some cases, longer. However, that's not always the case, so it's necessary to sift through the news and figure out which players may project for high volume.
Tonight's single-game contest on FanDuel features the Pittsburgh Steelers taking on the Tennessee Titans. Since every player on the slate has the same price tag, salary cap is not an issue. Additionally, there are no positional requirements in single-game contests
For those unfamiliar with the single-game format, scoring is identical to its full roster cousin, except lineups consist of five flex spots, and kickers are an option in place of defense/special teams. The one twist? One of the five roster spots is your designated "MVP," who receives 1.5-times his total fantasy points. Naturally, it's crucial that you choose your MVP carefully if you want to be at the top of the leaderboards when it's all said and done.
It appears that Ben Roethlisberger and the Steelers' starters will play. Pittsburgh coach, Mike Tomlin declined to address how long they'd play. Based on past history, expect the starters to play two or three series.
With that said, let's look at several players to consider in tonight's contest.
Players to Consider
James Washington - Washington has eight receptions for 162 yards and one touchdown (10 targets) in two preseason games. As a player with the ability to work deep down the field, Washington is the perfect type of asset to target in the single-game format.
Marcus Mariota - Mariota completed six of nine passes for 63 yards and one touchdown while only playing 18 snaps in last week's preseason game. In a make-or-break year for him, Mariota should provide a solid floor tonight with an expected increase in snaps.
Joshua Dobbs - Dobbs has completed 11 of 19 passes for 170 yards and one interception in the first two weeks of the preseason. He's also flashed his running ability as he's run for 49 yards this preseason. The former Tennessee Volunteers' quarterback anticipates that he'll play most of the second half as he continues to battle for the right to be Big Ben's backup.
Mason Rudolph - Rudolph has completed 15 of 23 passes for 168 yards and two touchdowns through two preseason games. The second-year pro needs another big game as he battles Dobbs for the backup quarterback spot. With Big Ben likely headed to the bench early, that should leave plenty of playing time for both Rudolph and Dobbs.
Jeremy McNichols - Playing 51% of the Titans' offensive snap in last week's game, McNichols received six carries for 13 yards and caught three passes for 24 yards (one touchdown reception). He nearly had a huge day as he had a rushing touchdown erased due to a penalty. Another huge game could solidify a roster spot for the former Boise State Broncos' star.
Taywan Taylor - Taylor played 52% of the team's offensive snaps in last week's preseason game. The speedster's roster spot could be in jeopardy. As we witnessed in the second week of the 2018 preseason, Taylor has as much upside as anyone in this game if he continues to play a significant amount of snaps.
Others to consider: Ben Roethlisberger, JuJu Smith-Schuster, James Conner, Jaylen Samuels, Trey Edmunds, Chris Boswell, Dion Lewis, Kalif Raymond, Darius Jennings, Alex Barnes, Cole Wick, Delanie Walker
